“2009 marks the 140th Anniversary of the birth of Matisse. His vision of a harmonious world echoes our objective of the “Peace and Harmony” exhibition series, which aims to promote understanding between different cultures with the ultimate goal of achieving peace and harmony amongst all nations.”

“Peace and Harmony: When East Meets West – a new perspective on Matisse from Dunhuang” The Exhibition displays the works of Henri Matisse, one of the greatest art masters in the twentieth century.  The exhibits include 40 paintings and prints, 3 sculptures, 20 copies of Dunhuang Caves Caisson replicated by major artists in 1950 and 117 copies of books written by or related to Matisse, making up a total of 180 objects.

The Exhibition is the second event of the “Peace and Harmony” series.  In 2007, the exhibition “Peace and Harmony – The Divine Spectra of Avalokitesvara from Tibet, China, a collection of 108 sacred Avalokitesvara statues and related artifacts” attracted tens of thousands of visitors in a week, and concluded with enormous welcoming reception by the public (please see www.xiang-he.org/Avalokitesvara/comments).  The upcoming Exhibition is expected to draw attention from art lovers and create a major sensation. “Peace and Harmony” remains the main message we would like to convey through the Exhibition.  We strongly believe that these are the two crucial elements that unite the world and which foster cultural exchange and interaction.  The Exhibition will serve as a valuable opportunity to promote Peace and Harmony.
