Mr. Lars Danielsson
Consul-General of Sweden

We are made wise not only by the recollection of our past but also by the responsibility for our future.

These words come to my mind when I share the content of the exhibition “Peace and Harmony – The Divine Spectra of Manjusri enshrining the Wisdom of China”. This exhibition is an eminent example of the diversity and richness of Chinese culture. By learning more about Chinese history, we will all improve our understanding of today's and tomorrow's developments in this part of the world.

In order to be able to live in peace and harmony, there is certainly need for continued wisdom. Theodore Roosevelt once said “Nine-tenths of wisdom consists of being wise in time”. This is all the more relevant today, when world leaders must come together to agree on measures to reduce the harmful effects of climate change. The European Union has promised ambitious measures to facilitate this and I am convinced that China will do the same.

Climate change can, among many things, be a detrimental threat to the preservation of our cultural heritage. We must not allow this to happen, because without culture and artistic values, peace and harmony will not be possible.

I would like to congratulate the Hong Kong SAR Government Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Chinese World Cultural Heritage Foundation, Hong Kong Buddhist Association and not least Mr. Paul Kan, Chair of Champion Technology Group for bringing this wonderful exhibition to all of us.
