Wisdom points to the enlightenment of all intelligent creatures which leads them to understand the Buddhist teaching of ultimate “emptiness”. In addition to that, wisdom also accounts for one's intelligence to observe, realize, distinguish and identify oneself. In Buddhism, Manjusri is the symbol of wisdom which represents the five kinds of Buddhist wisdom. Regardless of the territories and the origins, Manjusri is the most well-known and well-received God of Wisdom. Surmounting time and space, the images of Manjusri can be found everywhere – from Dunhuang frescoes to the Buddhist monk Hsu Yun facing Mount Wutai, proving its popularity. I am delighted to share with you the gold and bronze statues that I have the honour to collect over the years, including the statues of Manjusri in Tibetan Buddhism, the wrathful incarnation of Manjusri – the statues of Vajrabhairava, the statues of Manjusri in Chinese Buddhism and the pair statues of Manjusri and Samantabhadra. Hong Kong is a piece of blessed land. Hong Kong people are equipped with determination and strong will, which allow us to handle the economic tsunami calmly and wittily. May Manjusri bless us all and help Hong Kong overcome the recession and maintain its everlasting status of the Pearl of the Orient.
