Ms. Adele Bryant
Consul-General of New Zealand
I congratulate Paul Kan for bringing another beautiful and fascinating exhibition in the Peace and Harmony series on the story of aloe in religion and culture. The role of scented woods such as aloe in encouraging world trade and contact between civilisations is profound. From its early use in Egypt as a medicinal plant to its modern use in New Zealand for water conservation, the story of aloe is also the story of world globalisation. The exhibition asks us to focus on the positive aspects of these links between Hong Kong's fragrant harbour and the rest of the world and to dedicate ourselves once again to the promotion of global peace and harmony. |
