Root Carvings
Root carving is the carving of natural tree roots and burls etc., taking advantage of their natural characteristics, which include their shapes (such as how they curl, where knots appear and where they project and indent), their colours and textures, in creating animated, profound and inspiring art works. Thanks to the variety in the natural appearance of the roots, every piece of work is distinct, unique and one-of-a-kind. The principle of the art is “three-tenths carving, seven-tenths borrowing”, meaning that 30% of the work involves the human effort of carving, while 70% of it is attributed to nature. .......... |
